Just like in S.1, there is a selection process for students seeking A' Level admission at Butiki. The minimum set requirement  requires passing the UCE exams (taken at the end of the 4th year of O'level) usually in the preceeding year and obtaining a UCE certificate.

Unlike in many other public schools, the students can usually opt out from whichever subject combination that the school had offered them into one of their choice.  But this has to be done during the first month of admission.

 

1. It is presumed that the student's
    change of combination is dependant
    on his perceived sense of "ease" of the
    subjects that he chooses other than
    the "hard" combination that was
    decided by the school administration.

2. Some students feel that they are more
    suited to pursue careers in Science
    fields vs Arts fields, and hence prefer
    to change to a science combination of
    their choice. The vice versa is also
    true.

3. There is also the "grandiosity" aspect
    of subject selection. Although usually
    rare, some students feel that by offering a subject combination that is usually considered "hard or difficult", it will offer them more "respect" among fellow students. Surely, this is based
