ABOUT US

The purpose of “Kabale (In Uganda) – Swedish Children Rehabilitation Project 2014” is to provide basic education to vulnerable children through sports and schooling, and bring them to the age and level of making a difference in their lives.

Education is fundamental right and is important to improve the lives of children. In Uganda particularly Kabale district, children lack financial resources to be able to go to school. Many families cannot afford to take their children to school because it is expensive. This has caused under privileged children not to have formal education. Such children come from very poor families which cannot support their basic child development needs such as essential food for growth. In other instances, these children were orphaned by such factors as AIDS or they were neglected by careless parents who were also children - condition in which kids had kids. Such children resort to streets of the town as beggars and thieves and they become very dangerous to the society in which they live now and in the future.

In these circumstances, these children experience some of the following problems: Sexual violence is a crime against them which threatens their lives; Domestic violence, abuse and discrimination are some of the painful things children have to go through everyday of their lives in families into which they take refuge as house maids; Uganda has poor health care facilities, which have resulted in an increase in health problems for children and lack of health care facilities has increased the number of deaths of children. Children suffer from water-borne infection from the lack of clean drinking water due to ignorance resulting from lack of education; Starvation, which is caused by poverty where there is lack of financial resources to buy food. Starvation has resulted in malnutrition and underweight children; some children are infected and or affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. This has increased the number of orphans and vulnerable children and causing a large number of the young ones to be without parents or a guardian. The pandemic has resulted to a high number of child-headed households. Furthermore, because these kids are not adequately taught, they have a high chance of contracting the HIV virus while taking care of their sick parents or by being engaged in “sex games”. Research shows that children go through all this because they are not aware of their rights and they are not facilitated to know what to do.
